With Stranger Things, Netflix brings to life a nostalgic title that harks back to the 80s. You might find yourself reminiscing about other pop culture icons from this decade when watching this show. For example, Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, remembers Eggo waffles. As a huge Eggo fan, too (who doesn’t love that they pop up out of nowhere as if by magic?). We have decided to dig a little deeper into the history of Eggo.

Eggo is a frozen waffle brand owned by Kellogg Company and sold in North America.

What Does the History of Eggo Waffles Mean to Eleven?

What Does the History of Eggo Waffles Mean to Eleven?

Eleven was introduced to Eggo waffles the morning after Mike Wheeler and the Party discovered her in 1983. Mike gave her a single Eggo for breakfast, and she became addicted to the ready-made waffle. When El was stranded in the woods, the only food she stole from Bradley’s Big Buy was Eggo waffles.

After Eleven went missing, Jim Hopper tracked her down by leaving a box of Eggo in the woods. El confronted Hopper after discovering the Eggos and realizing he was putting them out for her, and they began living together in secret.

In 1984 Hopper enticed El out of bed one morning with a Triple-Decker Eggo Extravaganza. Hopper forbade El from eating Eggos for a week during their fight (along with the TV).

El also stole Eggos while Kali Prasad and her crew were robbing a gas station store.

When the gang was at Bradley’s Big Buy in 1985, Mike received a brief transmission from Dustin Henderson via his Supercom. While sitting in front of an open freezer of Eggos, Eleven used her powers to locate Dustin.

Recipe Card

Ingredients

  • 450 g (3+3/4 cups) universal flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 100 g (1/2 cup) sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 240 ml (1 cup)  milk
  • 120 ml (1/2 cup) water
  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) oil

Instructions

  1. Set aside the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the eggs and sugar until the mixture is pale and doubled in size (you can use an electric mixer for a few minutes at high speed).
  3. Mix in the milk, water, and oil until combined (do not use an electric mixer at this point).
  4. Mix in the dry ingredients in two steps until well combined. Don’t over-blend! To avoid lumps, use a sifter.
  5. Preheat the waffle maker and lightly coat both sides with melted butter or vegetable oil.
  6. Close the waffle maker and pour in about 12 cups of batter. Cook for approximately 1 minute. Waffles should not be browned to resemble store-bought Eggos.
  7. Repeat with the rest of the waffle batter.
  8. Serve immediately with maple syrup or your preferred topping.

Why Are Eggo Waffles Highlighted In The Strangers Things| Eggo Waffles Significance To Eleven

Eleven from “Stranger Things” is a young girl who was given the name Jane, and she was raised in Hawkins National Laboratory. She has telekinetic powers and can move objects with her mind.

She also loves Eggo waffles!

It’s hard to imagine waffles without syrup, but that’s how Eleven eats them. It’s one of the first things we see her do in the series when she arrives at the Wheeler house after escaping Hawkins Lab.

The other kids are confused by her eating habits at first, but then they realize how much they love it, too, even if they don’t show it in quite the same way that Eleven does!

Eggo waffles are a staple food in the “Stranger Things” universe, and fans have been obsessed with them since season 1 aired on Netflix. A few years ago, Netflix released an official cookbook for Eggo waffles that included recipes inspired by characters from the show, like Eleven’s favorite snack: maple syrup-drenched fried chicken strips dipped in maple syrup.

Eleven isn’t the only character who loves Eggos, though! There are plenty of others as well.

She uses the Eggo waffle brand to communicate with the outside world, using it as a way to communicate with her friends.

The show’s creators have said Eleven is “obsessed” with Eggo waffles. The first time we see her eating one is in Season 1, Episode 2 when Mike asks her if she wants a frozen waffle for breakfast.

Eleven replies: “Eggo waffles.”

In Season 2, Episode 7, we learn why she loves them so much: “They’re crispy and golden brown on the outside and soft on the inside.”

Conclusion

Eggos are a type of breakfast food made by Kellogg’s that come in different flavors, including chocolate chip, blueberry, and cinnamon raisin. They are similar to waffles but are made of frozen dough instead of batter.

This makes them easier to transport than regular waffles because they don’t need to be eaten right away as fresh waffles do. They also have fewer calories than traditional waffles because they are not made with butter, or oil like some other brands of frozen waffles are made with.
