  4. Sprinkle half of the cheese onto the syrup on the waffle that will be the bottom of the sandwich.

Is This a Breakfast Recipe or a Lunch/Dinner Recipe?

The crispy apple cheddar waffle grilled cheese is a breakfast recipe. It’s also a lunch, dinner, or brunch recipe. Maybe you’re thinking about making this for dinner one night and taking it to work for lunch the next day? If you are, know this crispy apple cheddar waffle grilled cheese will taste delicious and crispy whenever you want to eat them.

Does the Apple Have To Be Crispy?

You could use a different type of apple, or you could use an extra cheese. You can also add other toppings to your sandwich. For example, if you want to add bacon or sautéed mushrooms to the sandwich, go for it!

How Do You Make Crispy Apple Cheddar Waffle Grilled Cheese Sandwich?

Start with a waffle iron. You want to ensure your waffle maker is completely clean before you start cooking. The last thing you want is anything to get in the way of making this sandwich!

Preheat the waffle iron to medium-high temperature and spray with nonstick cooking spray so that it doesn’t stick when we add our ingredients later in the process (this will help prevent it from getting out of shape).

Prepare your apple slices by peeling them, cutting them in half, and then cutting each half into four pieces (or however many pieces you’d like to make), which should be about 1/4 inch thick each time they’re cut down, so they won’t burn too quickly while cooking on top of our cheddar cheese spread later on during this process.

What Kind of Cheese Should I Use for This Recipe?

A few factors affect the best cheese to use in this recipe. If you don’t like sharp cheeses, there are better options than American cheese.

Also, if you eat a lot of grilled cheeses and want them to be similar in consistency across the board, then cheddar isn’t the way to go either because it melts differently than most other cheeses.

If you eat grilled cheese as a meal and are looking for more variety in taste and texture, give mozzarella or provolone a shot!

Why is It Called a Waffle Grilled Cheese Sandwich If There’s No Bacon in it?

Although there is no bacon in this recipe, it’s called a waffle grilled cheese sandwich because the waffles are used instead of bread.

Like regular grilled cheese, this sandwich will be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and it also has a nice crunchiness to it, thanks to the crispy apples.

This recipe was designed with health in mind, so we think you’ll find that using waffles instead of bread really helps out!

How to Use Waffle Iron to Make Great Sandwiches?

When it comes to making a sandwich, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

1. Use a Good Quality Iron

A high-quality iron will help produce the best results and give you that crispy goodness you want.

2. Make Sure Your Iron is Clean

You want every inch of that surface area to be as smooth and clean as possible without any remnants left behind from previous meals (or lack thereof).

Not too much pressure! When applying pressure to your sandwich, remember not to press down too hard or else it won’t release all those delicious flavors into each bite as it should. You just end up with something bland and lifeless instead.

Not too much oil/butter/cheese/apple! These ingredients can get messy if they aren’t properly balanced out among themselves, so use exactly enough each time. Hence, everything stays neat on top without spilling over onto other places where it shouldn’t be going.

What Kind of Cheese Can I Use?

Cheese is the most important part of this grilled cheese. If you don’t choose the right one, your sandwich will be a flop. Here are some good options:

  • Cheddar
  • Swiss
  • Gouda
  • Provolone (the mildest option)

The only thing to remember is that if you use a strong cheese like sharp cheddar or parmesan, it will overpower the other flavors. So choose something milder if it’s your first time making this recipe.

    Can I Make It Vegan?

Yes! You can absolutely make this recipe vegan. There are a couple of easy ways to do it:

Use vegan cheese. Follow the same melting instructions as the cheddar, but try something like Daiya or Chao Mozzarella, which are both excellent and widely available.

Use vegan butter instead of regular butter in your waffles. Be sure to use one that is solid at room temperature, such as the Earth Balance brand (not spreadable). If you choose this option, skip Steps 2 and 3 below and cook your waffles according to their instructions on the packaging rather than my method outlined there.

Use maple syrup instead of honey in Step 4 below (or if you’ve made homemade apple cider donuts instead of store-bought donuts). Also, omit any cinnamon from that step if using maple syrup instead of honey.

Can I Use a Different Type Of Apple?

You can use any type of apple to make this recipe. A sweet apple will be milder, and a tart apple will have more bite. You can also try using green apples, which add some sweetness to the dish and make it a beautiful color! Red apples are also delicious.

How Can I Toast The Waffles and Make Grilled Cheese at the same time?

To make a crispy grilled waffle sandwich, cook the waffles in the toaster using the same settings you used to toast the bread. Then add them to your sandwich maker and press down with a spatula so they get flattened.

Waffles are best when served fresh! While you can feel free to use leftover or homemade ones for this recipe, it’s best if you’re starting from scratch and making your own batter. What to Do With Leftover Apples and Waffles?

If you’re not a fan of leftovers, use the apple and waffle combo in a few different ways.

    Apple-Waffle Breakfast Sandwich

This sandwich is a mashup of two popular favorites, but it won’t get boring because you can switch up the toppings. Try looking for savory options like honey mustard or hummus instead of regular ketchup, or go with something sweet like Nutella!

    Grilled Cheese Roll-Ups

These are super fun to make and eat! Instead of just spreading peanut butter on sliced apples (which is delicious in its own right), add lettuce leaves or spinach leaves and roll up your sandwich with your favorite cheese inside. This makes it juicier than regular grilled cheese, so don’t forget to toast both sides before serving; it’ll keep everything warm longer too!

    Overnight French Toast

Put some slices between two layers of bread with some cream cheese spread on top, and voila! You’ve got yourself an easy breakfast treat that will make everyone at home happy when they wake up hungry.”

How Long Can This Be Stored?

This delicious grilled cheese sandwich can be stored in a refrigerator for up to 3 days. If you’d like to make it more portable, pack the whole thing up and store it in your freezer! The sandwich will keep its flavor and consistency even after being frozen for several months.

    Conclusion

Everyone can make this delicious sandwich at home. It’s easy to make, and it tastes great! You don’t have to be an expert chef to make it, either. Just follow these instructions and enjoy!
